Janet’s Walk ‘Remembering Alan’ this Easter Monday
Durkan’s Gala store, Main Street, Louisburgh, is making final preparations for hosting Janet’s Walk on Easter Monday. The Durkan family has now dedicated this event to the memory of their son Alan, and Janet’s Walk ‘Remembering Alan’ will raise money for local charity Mayo Cancer Support Association at Rock Rose House. There is still time to sign up for this event which urges locals to get behind the initiative and walk, run, or cycle for this great charity cause.

Local cancer support centre appointed to Irish Cancer Society’s National Networking Committee
The Mayo Cancer Support Association, Castlebar, has been elected to the National Networking Committee of the Irish Cancer Society’s Cancer Support Affiliation Programme for the West/Northwest region. The committee, which held its inaugural meeting in the Irish Cancer Society’s offices in Dublin on December 6, will guide the direction of the society’s affiliation programme which sees it support 48 community based cancer support services across the country.

First ever Breaffy 10k this Sunday
The inaugural Breaffy 10k will take place this Sunday, August 28, as part of the Breaffy Blast Festival. The 10k walk/jog and run is being organised by Breaffy Community/ Breaffy GAA and Castlebar Fit for Life in aid of Western Alzheimers. This community-inspired event is aimed at runners and walkers of all abilities and levels of fitness over a 10km circuit. The predominantly flat route starts behind the national school in the village and extends in a loop along mainly picturesque country roads to finish at the front of the school.

The sixth race in Mayo AC's C&C Cellular 2011 Road League is at Claremorris on Saturday August 27 at 12 noon.
